Taking Joy in the Journey…Collective action- what iz it? It’s when you are all bringing something different to the mission and working together to ensure the mission is being achieved. It’s the bringing something different bit that most people balls up. We don’t always need to agree on the method, it’s the destination and taking some joy in the journey, which I try and remember.

Hello from Vibushan. Refugee week this year takes a bigger prominence for us than ever before. Oru is a proudly anti-racist organisation, we are a B Corp, we are accessible, and to date, more than 100% of our profit has gone into social impact, through many various means. Oru means one, for one, Oneness. It is this Oneness that we are trying to cultivate, and I hope that is felt.

Oru El Saltador is our new off-grid retreat space that we are creating in Southern Spain, and we want you to be a part of it!

This coming-of-age novel follows a young woman in Jaffna and is based on the beginnings of a long war in Sri Lanka.

March is a beautiful month, we can congratulate ourselves for making it through winter! How we treat our time becomes more crucial as our social obligations explode. Drishti, meaning focal point or gaze in Sanskrit, is crucial for achieving the “right” posture - but it’s paying attention to this that helped me achieve poses beyond my current abilities and flexibility.

Over 100 of you joined us for our recent Evening on El Saltador investor events, and thanks to your energy and belief in our vision, we’ve now raised £600k of our £700k target!

“2024 saw the launch of our Sutton site, the repurposing of an unloved ex department store, the equivalent size of launching the next eight Oru Dulwich sites, at once. And we’re delighted to take a moment and reflect on an incredible first year, full of learnings. The community is flourishing beyond anything we could have hoped for, epitomised by our community classes Chair yoga and Rhythm and Rhyme, thank you Maria and Francesca, which are waitlisted without fail.

A Kitchen In a Day: A Sustainable Transformation

At Oru, balancing design, sustainability, functionality requires a lot of our attention.

For our members kitchen we had a design and a plan, we then got the opportunity to salvage a kitchen. Which would mean scrapping the plan we had, taking a risk, working more closely with our builders and crucially accepting compromise.
